10 ways to get help abroad

When you live abroad, sometimes when you are facing a problem and need help, you might feel lonely and not being able to find a solution, but hey, there are plenty of ways to get help:

1. Smile – people will be happy to help you

2. Internet: Google, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks can provide instant help, advice and support

3. Contact your partner, family and close friends: these are usually the people who care most about you

4. Go to the church/mosque/synagogue/temple – usually religious institutions provide help for those in need

5. Contact your embassy (or contact embassy in your country of origin of the country you are in, for example, if you are from UK and visiting Malaysia, you could contact Malaysian embassy in the UK – sometimes they  can be more helpful than your own embassy).

6. Ask for the help on the street – it might be scary in the beginning, but after you try, you will see how many helpful people are around you!

7. Define, what is your problem and split it in smaller parts, which could have super simple solutions

8. Contact local charities and/or international charities, such as Red Cross

9. Check with neighbours – maybe they can help find the solution to your problem

10. Some other places, where you can get help: police, hospital, gas station, newsagent – all depends on the nature of help which is needed
